What to Bring
In order to check-in to your cabin, you will have to provide the State Park with your credit or debit card number. Your card will only be charged if there is damage to the cabin or a mess after you check-out.
Food Prep
- You can order a meal prep from A Couple of Cooks by e-mailing Marteeus and Tanisha Hall at Tanisha@TWHpoetry.org.
- You can bring groceries. (Lodge rooms do not have kitchens, but most do have mini-fridges and microwaves.)
- You can grab food from the cafeteria.
- Or you can hit a restaurant in town. About 10 miles away from the park, there is a Hardee’s, Subway, Huddle House, China 1, El Sombrero, Little Italy, etc.
The Facilitators’ Books
The retreat will be a great time to get a signature and ask questions about specific poems and techniques. Reading the facilitators’ books also shows that you respect them and the art.
We will not be providing notebooks, writing utensils, sharpeners, etc.Print outs of recent workIf you have a conference with one of our facilitators, you will most likely want to bring recent work. For everyone else, facilitators will let us know by December 20th if you need to bring any printouts of your work or if you need to complete a homework assignment before arriving. There is no place to print assignments at the park.
Flashlight
There may be unlighted parts between cabins and lodges. In the country, nighttime is real. Your phone will provide enough light to get around at night, especially if you have a flashlight app.; however, you might prefer a flashlight as well.
Clothes and jackets for a mild, usually sunny winter.
Prepare for a high of 65 degrees, a low of 25, and consider packing a just-in-case umbrella. Check the weather forecast closer to the retreat dates.
Mosquito repellent
Mosquitos aren’t much of a problem in the winter, but it’s always nice to have repellent on hand. If you don’t bring any but need some, they have it at the Park Store.
